Ted Stevens Loses

The Felon Didnt Win The Race

Sad day for American politics. One month removed from his felony convictions for taking money and not telling no suckers who need to mind their own business, Stevens falls. Democrats take another seat and Harry Reid drinks an Appletini somewhere to celebrate.

The real story is most definitely not the possibility of a Democrat fillibuster proof majority in the Senate (because eventually Al Franken will lose, I mean, come on). The real story is that the American Dream died a little bit last night. There are a lot of things ill in this country, but Felon in the Senate ain’t on that list. What kid doesn’t dream that one day when he is in a position of some power, or at least the thought of potential policy making, that he’ll take some cash, maybe illegally, band it and stick it, maybe, in a freezer or just some well maintained bank accounts. Then, when that World comes crashing down, that kid will turn to the American people for Redemption. Today, America turned a blind eye to those who seek that salvation.

In the end, what did Ted Stevens in was that he was a member of the Republican Party where they are a bit more, “Hey, man, don’t waste that money on your friends.” The American Dream would still be alive for Stevens today if he walked with those too afraid of their own shadow to punish Joe Lieberman. If Stevens were a Democrat today he’d be re-elected and walk around with a bit more, as the youth say, street cred. He’d brag about being untouchable, do a quick stint in Jail, then come out ready to collect. That’s how the corruption spreads, you leave it unpunished. He’d keep kickin’ that federal money back to his friends and they’d keep building extensions to his house.
